Low Calorie Vegetarian Recipes

 

It is believed that vegetarianism was first practiced as early as the 2nd millennium BC on the Indian subcontinent.

Some famous vegetarians were Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), Dr. J. H. Kellogg (1852-1943), Mahatma Gandhi (1869-1948), Albert Einstein (1879-1955), as well as Pythagoras, Socrates, Plato, Plotinus, Plutarch, Newton, Voltaire, Shelley, Darwin, Emerson, Linda McCartney, Leo Tolstoy, George Bernard Shaw and Morrissey.

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790), a vegetarian since the age of sixteen, later renounced that way of life during a sea voyage where he witnessed a fish cut open revealing another fish inside.

The International Vegetarian Union was formed in 1908. The number of Vegetarian restaurants are growing now too. Today, Indian vegetarians, are estimated to make up more than 70% of the world's vegetarians

Clearly low calorie and vegetarian recipes have a long and spirited history, as it continues to grow and influence around the world.

To get you started on a healthy low calorie and vegetarian food here are a few general guidelines to healthy eating:

  • Eat a variety of foods - don't limit yourself to just a few

  • Eat a lot of vegetables, grains, and fruits - these provide you with essential nutrients

  • Avoid eating meats

  • Avoid low fat foods such as butter and margarine - select low fat butter and margarine.

  • Achieve and maintain a healthy body weight with regular exercises.

  • Limit the amount of alcohol, salt, and caffeine in your diet.

 

For safe and healthy weight loss, don't exceed losing more than 2lbs a week. Avoid products and diets that guarantee overnight weight loss. Set a realistic goal for yourself, and follow a healthy weight loss regime.

Healthy eating doesn't mean you have to follow a strict diet, or give up foods you love. You just need to balance the amount of eat type of foods you eat to obtain all the necessary nutrients. It's a good idea to limit the fattening foods such as fast food, pizzas, etc... but you don't necessarily have to completely avoid them.

Healthy eating isn't difficult, but it's not simple either. You need to be able to balance the types of foods you eat, and at the same time, make them tasty.
